The Children's Place Retail Stores, Inc. Reports May Comparable Store Sales up 18%; Comparable Store Sales at The Children's Place Brand Increased 17%; Comparable Store Sales at Disney Store Increased 22%

SECAUCUS, N.J., Jun 01, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Children's Place Retail Stores, Inc. (Nasdaq: PLCE) today announced sales results for the four-week period ended May 27, 2006.

May 2006

  • Total consolidated sales increased 25% to $112.7 million, compared to sales of $90.4 million reported for May 2005. May sales included $79.6 million from The Children's Place brand, a 25% increase compared to last year's sales of $63.5 million, and $33.1 million from Disney Store, a 23% increase compared to last year's sales of $26.9 million.
  • Consolidated comparable store sales increased 18% in May.
  • The Children's Place brand's comparable store sales increased 17% on top of last year's 2% increase.
  • Disney Store's comparable store sales increased 22%.
  • During May, the Company opened three Children's Place stores and closed one. In addition, the Company opened two Disney Stores.

Year to Date Period

  • Total consolidated sales for the seventeen weeks ended May 27, 2006, increased 17% to $539.3 million, compared to sales of $459.6 million reported for the same period last year. Sales for the seventeen weeks included $401.7 million from The Children's Place brand, a 17% increase compared to last year's sales of $344.2 million, and $137.6 million from Disney Store, a 19% increase compared to last year's sales of $115.4 million.
  • Consolidated comparable store sales increased 11% for the year-to-date period.
  • The Children's Place brand's comparable store sales increased 10% on top of last year's 11% increase.
  • Disney Store's comparable stores sales increased 16%.
  • For the year-to-date period, the Company opened 11 Children's Place stores and closed two. In addition, the Company opened two Disney Stores and closed two.
