The Children's Place Reports September 2002 Sales Results
SECAUCUS, N.J., Oct 10, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Children's Place Retail Stores, Inc. (Nasdaq: PLCE), today announced sales of $60.1 million for the five-week period ended October 5, 2002, a 14% decrease compared to sales of $70.0 million reported for September 2001.
Comparable store sales for the five-week period decreased 30% as compared to an 11% decrease for the prior year period. The Company opened seven new stores during the period.
Sales for the thirty-five weeks ended October 5, 2002, increased 4% to $418.6 million from $402.9 million reported in the year-ago period. Year-to-date, comparable store sales decreased 14% versus a 9% decrease in the prior year period. Year-to-date, the Company has opened 102 stores and closed one.
