The Children's Place Reports March 2004 Sales Results; March Sales Increased 26%; Comparable Store Sales Increased 17%
Company Anticipates First Quarter Earnings Per Share Growth of 100% to Approximately $0.42
SECAUCUS, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 8, 2004--The Children's Place Retail Stores, Inc. (Nasdaq:PLCE), today announced sales of $97.1 million for the five-week period ended April 3, 2004, a 26% increase over sales of $77.2 million reported for the same period last year. Comparable store sales for the five-week period increased 17% versus an 11% decrease in the prior year period. The Company opened three stores during the month.
Total sales for the nine weeks ended April 3, 2004, were $157.1 million, a 29% increase from sales of $121.5 million for the same period last year. Comparable store sales increased 20% for the nine week period versus a 16% decrease in the same period last year.
The Company stated that based on quarter-to-date sales trends it anticipates earnings per share of approximately $0.42 for the first quarter, a 100% increase compared to earnings per share of $0.21 for the first quarter last year.
