The Children's Place Reports August 2002 Sales Results

SECAUCUS, N.J., Sep 4, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Children's Place Retail Stores, Inc. (Nasdaq: PLCE), today announced sales of $57.1 million for the four-week period ended August 31, 2002, a 2% increase over sales of $56.2 million reported for August 2001. Comparable store sales for the four-week period decreased 16% as compared to a 9% decrease for the prior year period. The Company opened 15 new stores during the period, including four in the US and 11 in Canada.

Sales for the thirty weeks ended August 31, 2002, increased 8% to $358.3 million from $333.0 million reported in the year-ago period. Year-to-date, comparable store sales decreased 11% versus a 9% decrease in the prior year period. Year-to-date, the Company has opened 95 stores.
